The Taboo of Doing Nothing for Your Birthday
Imagine having friends and family who plan their birthday parties months, and sometimes years, in advance. Every year, you tell them you don’t want to make any plans, yet somehow you always feel pressured into doing something. Don’t get me wrong—I am very grateful. Some of those years, I truly needed to get out and be surrounded by friends and feel loved. However, this year, I finally decided to go with my initial thought and ‘Do NOTHING.’
I messaged my parents, family, and friends saying something like, ‘I’m not doing anything. I just want to have a spa day, hike, and chill.’ For the most part, that's what I did (although I did decide to cancel the spa day and opt for some at-home care due to financial reasons). I sent my family and friends a birthday registry of a few low-priced items I wanted (an idea I got from a friend, because I usually don’t ask for anything because it’s tough times for everyone, but I thought a registry with items under $20 might be feasible) and then I just relaxed.
This year, I’m embracing simplicity and prioritizing my long-term financial goals. While a luxury spa day or dinner party would have been fun, it wouldn’t have been financially smart. I have many financial plans this year, so I have to choose responsibility over fun (BOOOO… tomatoes, tomatoes). But don’t get it twisted, I’ll have the occasional outing. This ‘Jesus year,’ I’m exploring free and low-priced excursions around the city and will be blogging/vlogging about it, so TUNE IN!

Hike R8ting:
8.5/10.
Our Hike Time: about 1hr 20 mins
Kennesaw mountain is a hike that is great for beginners(I’m a beginner). The hike can be done in regular gym shoes but I would have preferred hiking boots or shoes because there are parts of the trek where you could slip. It was pretty busy the day we went(Sunday) some people had speakers playing sermons which could be vexing to some, if you came for strictly nature sounds and alone time. The hike up the mountain was steep yet achievable and the journey down was rocky but easier than going up. Be sure to take water and maybe a light snack. It took about one hour for us to get up the mountain and about 20 minutes to get down.
